Deepfake videos of the National Stock Exchange’s chief executive give stock tips
What happened
On 10 April 2024 the National Stock Exchange warned investors about videos and audio clips in which its chief executive appeared to recommend stocks. The exchange said the clips had been made with technology that imitated his voice and facial expressions, and that they carried its logo.
It told investors not to act on them, said its employees are not allowed to recommend stocks, and said it was asking platforms to take the clips down.
